My Name is Alexius, Your Fitness Coach
Hello, I'm Alexius Jose Coronado Yeguez. Many of you know me as your dedicated fitness coach here in Chicago. Since arriving on Christmas Day 2020, I've poured my heart into helping our community become stronger, healthier, and more vibrant—both physically and mentally.
Today, I'm reaching out with a personal request that weighs heavily on my heart.
A Sudden Change: From Protection to Uncertainty
For years, I was protected under TPS (Temporary Protected Status) as a Venezuelan national. However, on November 4th, that protection vanished. The current administration petitioned the Supreme Court to terminate TPS for all Venezuelans—approximately 600,000 individuals who had built lives here.
Overnight, my legal standing became precarious.
The Path Forward: Seeking Asylum Together
My only viable option now is to apply for asylum. I have a well-founded fear of returning to Venezuela. Having lived in the United States, I would be considered a "traitor to the homeland" under new laws enacted in Venezuela. Returnees face grave risks: detention, torture, and imprisonment solely for having sought a better life abroad.
This isn't hypothetical. The situation in Venezuela has deteriorated significantly, particularly for those perceived as having "abandoned" the country.
Why We Need Your Help
This fundraiser covers legal fees for both my asylum case and my wife's case, as they are legally linked together. When one spouse applies for asylum, the other must also be included in the application process for family unity and protection.
The costs for our joint asylum case are substantial:
1: Initial Assessment, Information Gathering, and Application Preparation: $12,000
2: Nebraska package and EAD: $1,100
3: Preparation of Package.
4: Case Analysis and Supplemental Preparation: $6,000
5: Monthly Interest: 0.75%
6: Additional Legal Services Hourly rate:
- Paralegal: USD 120 per hour
- Supervisor: USD 170 per hour
- Attorney: USD 400 per hour
7: Additional Expenses if needed:
- Court and Government Fees.
- Services of translation or interpretation: $20 per page
- Pre-psychosocial assessments
- Administrative and Logistical Costs
Total Estimated Need: $20,000
As a fitness instructor, these fees are far beyond my means. Yet, without proper legal assistance, my chances of a successful case diminish dramatically. This ensures both my wife and I receive proper legal representation and can remain together in safety.
Our Commitment to Chicago
My work is my pride. Every day, I contribute to the health and wellness of our city. With over 35 years of experience as an athlete, trainer, and fitness educator, I've dedicated my career to empowering others. Chicago is our home—the place where we've built community, shared knowledge, and found purpose together.
How You Can Make a Difference
Several students have already generously offered to help. This campaign provides a structured way for anyone who wishes to contribute.
Your support will:
1. Cover critical legal expenses for both of our asylum cases
2. Allow us to pursue our case without sacrificing my work with you
3. Keep a committed coach in the Chicago fitness community
4. Send a powerful message of solidarity
5. Ensure family unity—keeping a marriage together through this process
Every contribution matters, whether it's $10, $50, or $500. Each donation brings me closer to security and allows me to continue doing what I love: guiding you toward your fitness goals.
Transparency & Gratitude
I will provide periodic updates on both the fundraising progress and our legal journey (within privacy limits). Your trust means everything.
To those who've already offered encouragement: thank you. To those considering donating: your generosity protects two lives and keeps a marriage intact. To my entire fitness family: you inspire me every single day.
With heartfelt appreciation,
Alexius Jose Coronado Yeguez
