My brother Alexis is a college student at the University of Washington. Over winter break, him and his friends took a trip to Canada to enjoy some time off from their studies. On December 18, 2025, on their way home, Alexis and his friends were involved in a terrible car accident on the Coquihalla Highway, where the road conditions were especially bad that day. Alexis was trapped in the car for over an hour and a half before emergency responders could airlift him to the hospital by helicopter. He suffered a brain bleed, a small collapsed lung, a severe concussion, a traumatic brain injury, and many bruises and cuts on his hands and body. He was finally discharged from the hospital on the night of December 22, 2025.

Because of his concussion and traumatic brain injury, Alexis won’t be able to work for some time, which means he can’t help out financially as he usually does. As a non-resident in Canada, his hospital bills are much higher than we ever expected. My parents are already under a lot of financial stress, supporting four kids who are all involved in extracurricular activities, with one in college, and managing everything on a single parent income. This unexpected accident has put an enormous strain on our family, both emotionally and financially.
