My daughter Harper, and her school project partner Alexis, have spent the entire school year working on a National History Day project that began back in September. Their research focused on The Hello Girls of World War I, and they created a website to share their findings. You can view their project here: https://site.nhd.org/07252262/home. Throughout the year, they have competed at regional and state competitions, each time presenting their project, interviewing about their research, and receiving feedback to improve their work. Their dedication and persistence have paid off, as they have now qualified to compete at the national competition in Washington DC this June.
This project has been a true passion for Harper and Alexis. It has taught them to be self-driven, to conduct thorough research, and to go beyond the standard methods of learning in a school setting. The interview process at each competition has helped them mature, learn how to interact with professionals in the academic field, and constantly refine their final product. Their hard work has been rewarded by their advancement, and they are the only project from Potomac School to qualify for the national competition.
We are raising funds to cover the travel costs of airfare to Washington DC, lodging on the University of Maryland campus during the NHD competition, and registration fees. Your support will help Harper and Alexis attend the national competition, continue their learning journey, and represent Potomac School and Mrs. Van Kerkhove's teaching at NHD. Thank you for considering supporting this academic endeavor and helping them achieve their goals of competing at the national level.
