Hello, my name is Jordan. My sister, Alexis Langeland, lives with me and my mom. She is high on the autism spectrum but is functional. She can't drive, and she has a 3-year-old daughter. Recently, Alexis was diagnosed with gastroparesis, and she has been throwing up her food every time she eats—up to 60 times a day for the last 2 years. Unfortunately, the doctors can't help her.
Her medication is very expensive, and now her insurance won't cover anything. Her medical bills are becoming overwhelming. She has been denied treatment at the Mayo Clinic because her insurance wouldn't allow her to go, and the same goes for the Cleveland Clinic. We have been paying for her medical expenses, but we have run out of money. Since this all started, she hasn't been able to work, and we need food and supplies for her daughter.
I know this may be a lot to ask for, but I hope they can help her despite our low income. I also want to emphasize what it feels like to throw up. Imagine throwing up 60 times a day for 2 going on 3 years straight. She has lost all her strength to do anything, and without help, the only thing that keeps her alive is an IV drip when she is close to starving. Then they send her home and tell her she needs to eat more, saying they can't do anything else.
Please try to put yourself in her shoes and ask yourself if you would want others to help you out in a similar situation.
