Help Alexis Attend the National Youth Leadership Forum: Explore STEM!
Alexis Del Valle Mendoza has been nominated by Dr. Stacey Waggoner at Smokey Road Middle School to attend the prestigious National Youth Leadership Forum (NYLF): Explore STEM this summer!
This program, hosted by Envision by WorldStrides, is designed for middle school students with academic potential and a passion for science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM).
At NYLF Explore STEM, Alexis will:
Participate in hands-on STEM activities, including robotics design challenges and CAD modeling.
Practice medical techniques during a simulation created by Stanford University experts.
Interact with STEM professionals and explore career opportunities in these fields.
Develop critical life skills like time management, collaboration, and public speaking.
Create a personalized success plan to prepare for high school, college, and beyond.
At NYLF Explore STEM, Alexis will develop the following skills:
Critical Thinking - Practicing medical techniques during a realistic simulation titled When Care Is Hours Away.
Spatial Reasoning - Creating a three-dimensional model using CAD software.
Engineering Principles - Participating in a robotics design challenge.
Communication Skills - Interacting with subject matter experts and improving public speaking.
Social-Emotional Skills - Learning time and self-management, conflict resolution, collaboration, and teamwork.
Ethical Understanding - Examining the ethical frontiers of 21st-century science.
Future Planning - Creating a personalized success plan to prepare for academic challenges and career opportunities.
These skills will help Alexis succeed in college, life, and a future STEM career.
