Help Alexei get lifesaving surgery!

My best friend Alexei needs medical help.  Two years ago, they were hit by a speeding driver while crossing the street.  Since then, they have started to have blackouts, seizures, and, recently, two suspected heart attacks.  Unfortunately, the medical system in Brisbane, Australia has failed to produce a diagnosis for them, and their seizures have recently become significantly worse.

Due to prior medical trauma, physician bias, and bigotry in the medical system, Alexei has trouble with self-advocating on medical matters, and is routinely ignored when they do.  Further, even if they are taken seriously, they do not feel safe staying overnight alone in a hospital due to their past experiences, and do not have anyone able to stay with them.  While the cause of Alexei's seizures is unknown, they are suspected by several medically literate individuals, myself included, to possibly be being caused by dangerously high cerebrospinal fluid pressure; prior investigation by a neurologist showed no brain trauma that would explain them.

This fundraiser's goal is to fund my travel from North Central Florida to Brisbane, Australia in order to accompany Alexei to the hospital, medically advocate for them as needed to ensure they get properly diagnosed and treated (and in a prompt manner), and stay with them throughout the process.  Any extra funds will be used to buy basic necessities for Alexei to replace items damaged by an abusive former partner, and if sufficient enough funding is received, to send them to PAX Australia if they have doctor's clearance, in order to celebrate surviving everything that's happened.  Ideally, the $6500 will more than cover my flight, hotel, and expenses, but due to the high possibility of needing to travel urgently, I'm trying to ensure that money is available if that becomes necessary.

We need these funds as soon as possible; Alexei's seizures have significantly worsened in the past month, and they had a second suspected heart attack within the past few days (above reasons are why they have not sought confirmation or treatment).  If their health does not continue to decline, the intent is to travel to Brisbane in the second half of August.  However, if there is an emergency where they are hospitalized, I will be travelling immediately to minimize the amount of time Alexei spends alone.

If you cannot contribute directly, but are able to provide a flight or hotel room in Brisbane, or a discount on either, please contact me directly.  While I will be spending most of my time with Alexei, having a hotel room available will enable me to shower and rest while a local friend or family member spends a little while with them, and gives me a place to stay when Alexei is not in the hospital.
