Help Alexandria Beat Breast Cancer

My name is Drea. The woman pictured above is Dr. Alexandria Lightning. Her friends call her Alex, our mom calls her Alexandria, but I call her Allie... because she's my big sister. She's a board-certified family nurse practitioner and in 2020, she decided to open up a medical clinic.

After working the COVID frontlines as a COVID ICU provider in New York city for 2 months, she saw the need to reinforce the principles of preventative health. My sister HATES using medicine in place of a wholistic approach: good nutrition, water, sleep, exercise, and good mental health. And so, she wanted her medical clinic to take an integrative approach, coaching clients on healthy lifestyle, and healing from the inside out.

After schooling, she even took a year long residency program at UC Irvine School of Medicine for Primary Care Psychiatry so she could adequately address the mental health needs of her patients. We make fun of her sometimes, because its like she just can't stay away from school. But in reality, we know it's because she wants to give her patients the best.

Well - after going to school for 12 years, pouring ALL of her resources into her clinic, and finally opening her doors- she was diagnosed with breast cancer. NO ONE in our family has breast cancer.

My sister is strong. She has given everything to be where she's at today. She's not married, she doesn't have children, and she now lives in a state where she only has one blood family member: Me.

I started this GoFundMe for her because I know she has a long road ahead of her. My sister - if she could, would work with the chemo literally infusing into her arm. But the reality its- she will have to stop. And that’s not going to be an easy task for her…emotionally or financially. But it's her reality.

She will be undergoing a double mastectomy very soon. Her recovery time will be a minimum of 4 weeks. She is business owner, responsible for the livelihood of her staff and their families. If she doesn't work, she doesn't get paid. After (or before) her mastectomy, she will have to undergo chemo treatment. She will lose her hair, and she will feel unwell. But what I don't want her to lose while she's healing is her business that within itself is changing lives for many in our community.

My sister is tough. And we have no doubt that she'll make it through this awful time - but I also hope that her loved ones and many of you who know the pain of this journey will help ease the burden.
