On the morning of October 2, our family's world was turned upside down. After two visits to the hospital in August for what was thought at the time to be heart related issues, I found my wife lethargic and unresponsive in the bed. Immediately we rushed to the emergency room and after a week in the ICU, she was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia. The Doctors were concerned due to the aggressive nature of the Leukemia and started chemotherapy in the ICU shortly after the diagnosis.
Things progressed well through the first 7 days of chemo and she was transferred out of the ICU to the Oncology floor where she began the 2nd round of chemo at the beginning of November. The second round of chemo did not go as well as the first as her white blood cell counts and hemoglobin haven't been rebounding like they did after the first round. On November 11th she developed an infection and she was transferred back to the ICU where she has been since.
After the Doctors informed me they can only maintain her levels at this point until her system restarts itself that she will need long term nursing care round the clock in a facility. We're trying to raise enough so we can bring her home to our two daughters, while still maintaining the level of care she needs to get better.
Thank you for helping bring my beautiful girl home and god bless.
