Chris, Beth, Benjamin and Alexander Johns' lives changed completely last week. You would think these words would be in relation to their cross-country move to Denver four days prior, but unfortunately that has been the least of stresses upon the Johns' family. On Wednesday when Alexander woke up from a nap, he was unable to move or feel his legs. A large tumor was found to be pushing on his spinal cord and he was immediately operated upon. A portion of the tumor was able to be removed to help relieve the pressure on his spine in the hope that his nerves may begin to recover and heal.
Alexander was diagnosed within a few days of that initial ER visit with a cancer called Neuroblastoma. He has just started and also completed his first cycle of chemotherapy. We are still awaiting some test results in order to find out if the cancer has spread and also how aggressive this particular tumor is. Once we have these answers, we will potentially have a more clear picture as to how many months of treatment he will need or if he will require more surgery.
He is still paralyzed below the waist, unable to feel or move his legs, but we are hopeful that he improves in the coming months. With all he has been through, his smiles continue to fill and light up the room on even his hardest days.
This fundraiser is to support the excessive medical costs and needs associated with helping Alexander the Great to fight Neuroblastoma and its' effects. All proceeds will be paid directly to Alexander's parents, Chris and Beth Johns.
