Help Save Alex – A Brave Teen Fighting Relapsed T-cell Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia

I am reaching out on behalf of my dear friend Jamie Yang and her brave and remarkable child, Alex Yang, who is currently facing a serious medical battle, and who are in urgent need of support.

Alex was first diagnosed with T-cell Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia in March of last year after being rushed to the ER with severe breathing problems. A 12cm mediastinal mass was found in his chest along with nearly 4 liters of fluid in his right lung. He was immediately hospitalized and underwent 10 months of intensive chemotherapy.

Through incredible strength and determination, Alex began to recover. By January, he returned to school ( Palm Desert High School) and was starting to feel like a normal teenager again.

But in April, his cancer returned, more aggressively than before. This time, a larger mass pressed against his heart and airway, and 6 liters of fluid had built up again. He required emergency chest tube placement, and the tumor caused phrenic nerve damage that left his right diaphragm paralyzed. It’s still uncertain whether his diaphragm will recover.
Despite 3 more rounds of chemotherapy, the cancer remains active.

Now, Alex’s best, and possibly only chance is to enroll in a
CAR T-cell therapy clinical trial, followed by a bone marrow transplant. This experimental treatment uses genetically modified immune cells to fight the cancer and offers a glimmer of hope.

However, in the entire United States, only 3 hospitals currently offer this CAR T clinical trial:
• Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP)
• MD Anderson Children’s Cancer Hospital in Houston
• City of Hope in Duarte, California

As of now, none of these hospitals have confirmed trial availability. Even if the trial is open, there are waiting lists and it’s unclear whether Alex will be accepted in time.

A doctor has shared the heartbreaking truth: if both the CAR T trial and bone marrow transplant fail, there are no other treatment options left.

Alex is a kind, respectful, and intelligent teen who dreams of becoming an engineer. He’s always put others first and NOW, he needs our help.

His family is facing an enormous emotional and financial burden: travel to another state, long-term housing, and medical expenses not fully covered by insurance.

They are doing everything in their power to save their son, but they can’t do it alone. Jamie and Gene (Alex's parents), even while facing the most difficult and emotional chapter of their lives, still go to work every day to provide for their family. Their strength is inspiring, but the financial burden is growing.

Please consider donating. Every dollar makes a difference. And if you can’t give right now, please share Alex’s story. Your kindness, prayers, and support could give this brave young man the second chance he desperately needs.

Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.
