Help Alex Train to Support Mental Health Community
Donation protected
I’m Alex, 41, from Portland, OR. I’ve struggled my entire life to find professional success on account of my mental health. At the beginning of this year I began volunteering on my weekends at the NorthStar Clubhouse, a non-profit mental health rehabilitation environment for those in need of human support.
I spend my time there cooking, cleaning, and getting to know and help others. It’s fulfilling work because I’m able to use my life experience to support people, rather than let that same experience weigh me down in other positions.
I love the work that I get to do at NorthStar so much that I’d like to become a certified Peer Support Specialist. Supporting others in the mental health community is something I feel a true calling for, and it’s a feeling that persists rain or shine.
In order to become certified, training is necessary. There’s a program through FolkTime that offers training at $650, which I would very much like to participate in. I however lack the additional funds at this time to put towards the training costs. After spending several months researching scholarship and vocational rehabilitation resources, I’ve found that none are available at this time to help me get the training I need.
This GoFundMe is a call for help. I’m hoping that somehow I’ll be able to build up the funds to attend a training at the end of October. I’ve added $50 to cover the cost of transportation and the bank transfer fees as well.
I’m looking for folks to help me so that I can help others.
