On Friday 24th October 2025, Alex and Steph Hallas joyfully celebrated the wedding they had been planning for more than three years.
Friends and family generously gave cards, gifts and money so they could embark on a honeymoon and start their life together.
After the celebration, an Uber taxi was requested for the wedding party from The Engine Shed to The Bridge Inn, where they were been dropped off.
While the friends and newly-weds thought all was done, what they didn’t know was that their gifts and cards – including a precious photo-book signed by all their guests, Wedding Cards with money – had been placed in the boot of the Uber taxi by a staff member and then never retrieved.
CCTV at the Engine Shed confirms the items went into the vehicle. On arrival at the Bridge Inn the boot was never emptied. The Uber driver was contacted, but he disgustingly turned his phone off.
Voilà — the bag and its contents (valued at about £5,000) went missing.
For Alex & Steph this isn’t just money: the photo-book and cards were full of love and memories they’ll never get back. The loss has devastated them and their family.
Their honeymoon to Mexico will now not happen, and they are trying to salvage what they can with help from family.
We’re raising this fund to help them:
• Replace the lost gifts so they can still start their life without that burden.
• Honour the generous contributions of friends and family by giving Alex & Steph a chance to repay kindness rather than carry unresolved debt.
• Help them invest in their dream honeymoon and future together — because your gift isn’t just financial, it’s giving hope.
How funds will be used:
• To reimburse or compensate for the lost gifts/cards/money (approx. £5,000)
• To support the newly-married couple as they plan their honeymoon and early married life
• To cover any unexpected costs or losses resulting from this incident (legal, investigation, etc)
Why they need your support:
This kind of theft is not just a financial loss — it undermines the joy and trust of a big life moment.
Alex and Steph had been looking forward to their honeymoon and the first chapter of married life. They now are facing a setback through no fault of their own.
Any donation — large or small — will help restore hope, dignity and the promise of a joyful new beginning for this lovely couple.
From the bottom of our hearts: thank you for caring.
