Let me start by saying that our guy Alex Rolls is at home alongside the A-Team, recovering and thankful for his Guardian Angel. Literally gave me goosebumps as he told me this crazy story....

We all know Rolls, he's literally the the best this sports memorabilia industry has to offer. He's been the backbone of Shorty McBills since day one and chances are if you have a custom helmet in your collection - it came from DecAlex. He's contributed to every single donation razz we've ever done and gone above and beyond to "Make Shorty's Great Again". This past weekend, Rolls made his long awaited trip to Buffalo to prove that he wasn't catfishing the Shorty's community.

For the past few months Alex has been having back and neck pain, that included some numbness in his hands. His legs would get wobbly and at times, everything around him just seemed cloudy. Maybe it was the IPA's, maybe it was the everyday stresses of being a Bills fan - so Rolls did what the majority of men would do and just dealt with it. Until he finally visited a doctor who told him it was a combination of anxiety, low blood sugar and a pinched nerve. Onward.

So Rolls made his trip to Buffalo, with the game being secondary to the real reason he came - to spend time with family and to take down his late Father's (Guardian Angel) military banner in Lackawanna. On Saturday, he visited the site with friends and family for a memorial long in the making.

Fast forward to Sunday - Bills vs. Pats - Rolls return to the 716. At the game, his right leg gave out, causing him to take a spill. Thankfully his friends were by his side to help carry him out of the stadium, to what onlookers probably assumed was just another intoxicated Bills fan. In all reality, Alex was hardly drinking and knew this was something more. He took off and headed to the train station to return home, only to find out his train was delayed 3 hours. What else could he do, but deal with the pain and wait.

When he got home, he went directly to the ER and received an MRI.

The doctors returned to tell him that he was being admitted and required necessary surgery that same day. Turns out the numbness and pain was coming from his nerves, but it was ultimately damaging his spinal cord. He was rushed into surgery where they removed his C6 and C7 discs. While operating, his right side was paralyzed on the operating table for 20 minutes and they didn't really know how. The doctors told him that if he waited another month, chances are he would've been paralyzed and in a wheelchair for the rest of his life. Unreal.

When Rolls was telling me, the part that his me so hard personally was when he said "If I never made that trip, I would've just chalked it up to a pinched nerve, anxiety and low blood sugar." There's no doubt that if he doesn't come to Buffalo, he keeps working and deals with it, like we all do in some capacity.

So with all of that, Rolls has a long road ahead. Not cleared for work until at least 2026, times are gonna to be tough. The next few months is filled with outpatient rehabilitation and physical therapy. His bills are still due. Holidays are still coming. Obligations must still be met.

So let's do what Shorty's literally always does - support a member / founder in need.

The goal is $5k and to be honest, we should triple that. With everything Alex has done for the community, there's not shortage of friends and family to support. I want these funds to pay his mortgage the next 6 months and to help provide the holidays that his girls deserve.
