Help Alex Overcome Medical Expenses
Donation protected
Our former roommate, Alex, is recovering from health issues and needs financial assistance. Here is Alex's experience expressed in his own words:
I am 37 years old and I work for a local organization as an activities coordinator for autistic men. Prior to that, I worked for many years as a field staff for at-risk youth. I have an active lifestyle and have been in good health until I was diagnosed with liver disease this year.
It started with gallstone surgery that revealed liver damage. Shortly after that, I ended up in the hospital in very bad shape with my liver and other organs in a downward spiral. This was all very shocking given my good health before.
One contributing factor that may help explain this rapid turn of events is my daily use of the herb kratom. There is growing evidence that this supplement may contribute to the development of liver disease, especially if one also consumes alcohol. I was managing my alcohol consumption. However, new research indicates that this combination may supercharge effects on the liver. I was not aware of these risks until I ended up in the hospital. So, I am cautioning anyone using this supplement: Be careful!
I am happy to report that I am home and working again. I am recovering with medications and vigilance in consuming anything that might adversely affect my liver. This is a slow process of recovery, but I feel good about the future.
I have major medical expenses from the two hospital visits and my current treatments. My insurance covers a good portion of these expenses, but there is much that is beyond that coverage. I appreciate the support so that I may continue with my recovery and pay off these expenses.
Please donate what you can to support his efforts in a healthy recovery without the burden of expensive medical bills.
