Help Alex Marshall Stay in his Home
Donation protected
This is a fundraiser to help Alex Marshall stay in his apartment while he lives out his remaining years. Without any help it is likely that Alex will have to move into a state run facility in Los Angeles and the quality of his life will likely decline.
Alex has lived and worked in Santa Barbara since 1979, as a prolific graphic designer, musician, music producer and commercial artist. Since the year 2000 he has been the bandleader of the renowned New Orleans style jazz band Ulysses, a group that has produced albums and played each weekend at the popular downtown pub James Joyce; the band also plays for events and fundraisers in town and beyond.
In 2018 Alex suffered a stroke that left him unable to play with his band but he gathered enough strength to help his band record and produce their most recent album. He is no longer able to play with the band, however. He misses this part of his life greatly. He is 85 years of age and gradually becoming less capable of living without assistance. He has a caregiver who helps with shopping, household chores and meals for 10 hours a week, paid for by SB County Social Services and MediCal.
Alex has lived modestly for many years in a cottage near the downtown, with a monthly rent of just $1100 and other expenses of about $400/month. He receives little to no income and his funds are running out which will cause him to have to move to a state run facility unless this fundraiser is successful.
