Help Alex Keep Her Service Dog and the Career She Loves

For over 11 years, Alex has dedicated herself to serving the military community through arts and crafts programming, customer support, and mission-focused leadership. She has built her career around showing up for others — her team, her customers, and the community she serves.
Now, she is the one who needs help.
Alex is facing an ongoing employment and reasonable accommodation matter that has left her fighting to continue doing the job she loves. At the center of that struggle is Hobbes, her trained service animal, who plays an important role in helping her manage the lasting effects of trauma from past domestic violence.
For more than 10 years, Alex has successfully worked with trained service animals in the workplace. After an unfounded complaint was made about a single alleged incident involving Hobbes’s behavior, his access to the workplace was restricted. The result has been life-changing. She has spent more than four months trying to navigate the proper administrative process while separated from the support she relies on and from normal access to her workplace.
What should have been a timely and fair process has instead become prolonged, stressful, and emotionally exhausting. The uncertainty has created financial pressure as well, and it has become clear that Alex now needs legal representation to help protect her rights and respond appropriately.
Funds raised through this GoFundMe will go toward:
• Attorney retainers and legal consultations
• Filing and administrative expenses
• Record review and case preparation
• Ongoing legal representation and support
If attorney’s fees are later recovered in connection with this matter, Alex plans to donate an amount equal to the legal-fee donations received through this fundraiser, with 50% going to Medical Mutts and 50% going to Putnam Service Dogs. In addition, if any funds remain after legal and case-related expenses have been fully covered, those remaining funds will also be donated equally between these two organizations.
Alex chose these organizations because their work reflects an important part of this journey: transforming rescued dogs into highly trained service animals that provide life-changing support to people with disabilities.
For more than a decade, Alex has shown up for her community. If you are able to support her now, thank you. If you are not in a position to donate, sharing this page would also mean a great deal.
