Three weeks ago, my perfectly healthy nephew became ill. He was brought to WellSpan, where they said he was fine and sent him home. On Sunday, things were not any better, and he was taken to Geisinger, where after a short time, he was intubated and in a coma. Alex's friends had given him Zaza Red, which his body, unbeknownst to everyone, could not metabolize. He was confused, agitated, vomiting, and near death. While in the hospital, we found out Alex has a deadly genetic error that was dormant until a toxin was introduced. Since then, he has been at Janet Weis Children's Hospital and recently CHOP in Philly. Alex is now awake but having cognitive delay and issues with his liver and heart.

My family has been traveling to the hospitals, sleeping on floors. My parents are unable to work right now and are facing financial hardship.
