If you’ve ever ridden with VietVelo, RBC, or Green Lizard, chances are you’ve had the fun of sitting on Alex’s wheel, as so many of us have. Alex is admired not only for his strength and endurance on the bike in the area, but also for his kindness. Despite being a strong rider, he always takes time to organize rides for weaker members, helping them improve, encouraging them to push their limits, and making every ride better for everyone. As the saying goes, strong riders ride for themselves, but stronger riders ride for others—and Alex has always been the strongest in that sense.
That’s why it has been heartbreaking to witness Alex suffer a devastating bike crash on Wednesday night, October 1, 2025. He was rushed by ambulance to Reston Hospital Center, where doctors discovered the extent of his injuries: seven broken ribs, a punctured lung on his left side, a collapsed lung on his right, and internal abdominal injuries. After several days in the ICU, he now faces major surgery and a long, painful recovery ahead.
Alex’s greatest quality has always been his resilience, and now he faces the toughest climb of his life—one that goes far beyond the bike. Physically, emotionally, and financially, the road ahead will test him in every way. But with our support, he won’t have to face it alone.
The accident has left Alex unable to work, with no income and medical expenses that continue to grow. For someone who has given so much to our cycling community—leading, supporting, and inspiring—it’s our turn to give back. Every contribution, no matter the size, will help lighten his burden and remind him that he is surrounded by friends who care deeply.
