Help Alex Guerrero’s Family
Donation protected
Hi! I am Alex and I am 15 years old and really like playing guitar, little bit of piano and just being active. In the summer going into 9th grade, I got into a wrestling accident and my life changed completely. From being a healthy teenager to not being able to move like I used to do. I told my mom that I was OK so she wouldn’t get worried, but I actually wasn’t. My mom was unable to work since she needed to be at the hospital with me. After a few weeks, we found out she got fired from her work, so we had no way of getting food or any income since my dad is also out of work due to his diabetes. Right now, we are struggling with income, getting food for my little brothers (one with Down syndrome). Neither of my parents have health insurance due to needing to leave their jobs and since both my parents have medical histories, we are struggling to medicine for both of my parents to keep them well. We live in a trailer home, not so small but not so big, but pretty old. My dad started to work on home renovations for me to come home safely and found out there needed to be much more work to be done on it.
I really never liked relying on other people and I mainly liked helping my parents with my little brothers since they worked almost every day. I cooked for them, showered them and made them go to bed, just like a normal older brother would. After my accident, I thought my parents would struggle taking care of my little siblings since they worked a lot. It actually made me feel bad, that I couldn’t help my parents anymore. Since then, I had a mindset to where “I will get better and help them like before.” And to do that, I would need to get into my house safely. That would include fixing the current damage and expanding spaces to make it accessible for me in my wheelchair.
I would REALLY REALLY appreciate ANY donations from any of y’all to help me get back home with my family. Thank you for anything you can contribute to my family’s home and our ability to all be together.
Sincerely, Alex
(Update) February, 22 2023
Here is an update on Alex’ situation. Alex was able to return home on December 2022. A big thank you to everyone who has donated and shared his story. Alex was able to get a ramp entry at home and adequate door sizes, and equipment/ bathroom for his care. Alex and his family wants to thank everyone that has donated. As of now, Alex continues to have very important needs for his care. One is that the insurance is almost not covering transportation to his appointments. And secondly, the insurance does not cover Alex’ therapy sessions and he only got a grant that covered 13 sessions.
Alex has been going to most of his doctors and therapy appointments with a lot of efforts of his parents and some donations from people who has helped when possible. However, it has been not enough and we are still asking for your help. Alex needs a reliable transportation to continue to recover. Please donate to help us to buy a handicap van for the family and to get more therapy sessions to maximize his functionality and independence to have a life as normal as possible.
Thank you! God bless you for your charity and support in Alex’s cause.
