I am writing on behalf of Alexanderia Johnston, a 26-year-old single mom to an amazing 7-year-old son that I have recently come to know.

Life has been a struggle throughout Alex’s life and now she is facing an impossible decision: get the dental care she desperately needs or put food on the table and a roof over the head for her son.

To make ends meet, she has been putting off her dental care for far too long and is now in constant pain that impacts her ability to eat, work and sleep. She urgently needs $45,000 to cover the expense of dental work to alleviate the pain, stop any further damage, and to provide a long-term solution so that she can provide for her son as he goes through school and beyond.

Alex has been to organizations such Clear Choice as well as number of local dentists and periodontists. A redacted set of photos from one of these is shown below.

She has also approached several charities, but none have the depth of skills needed to help her.

The consensus is that she will need all of her upper teeth removed, many cannot be simply extracted but will need to be surgically removed by a periodontist due to their level of decay and cracking A temporary denture will then be fitted that she will wear for six months while her gums heal before a more permanent solution is found.

While some of Alex’s lower teeth may need to be extracted or surgically removed, given Alex’s age many of the periodontists would like to try and save as many of her own teeth as possible. This would then be followed by extensive dental work to fill existing cavities, as well as potentially root canals and bridges.
