Help Alex Fight: Support Rene Alexander Monterrosa’s Cancer Journey
Hi everyone,
My name is Rene “Alex” Monterrosa—though many of you know me as Monte or simply Alex.
I grew up in the Washington, D.C. area, surrounded by an amazing family and a community I love deeply. I had a fun, active childhood, and as I got older, I became a true “jack of all trades,” working a variety of construction jobs and meeting incredible people along the way. Whether we met on a job site or through family and friends, you know I’ve always tried to live life with energy, kindness, and a smile.
Today, I’m living in California with my two loyal fur buddies, Charlie and Sako, and a group of friends who feel like family.
An Unexpected Turn
Over Thanksgiving, I thought I was dealing with a severe case of food poisoning. When the pain didn’t go away, I went to the emergency room a few days later. That’s when my life changed completely.
I was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer that has spread to my liver.
Since then, I’ve been in and out of the hospital undergoing procedures to manage the pain and help reopen my digestive tract so I can eat again. I am now preparing to begin chemotherapy and start the long fight ahead.
I am not giving up.
Why I’m Asking for Help
Although I have health insurance that covers part of my treatment, this diagnosis has taken away my ability to work. Construction has always meant staying active and on the move—but right now, my focus must be on surviving and healing.
I’m asking for support to help cover essential expenses, including:
Monthly living costs: Rent and utilities so I can remain in my home during treatment
Daily necessities: Food, vehicle payments, and insurance so I can get to appointments
Medical out-of-pocket costs: Co-pays, medications, and treatments not fully covered
Care for my dogs: Sako and Charlie are my family, and I want to continue providing for them
My Goal
My goal is simple: to focus every ounce of strength I have on fighting this cancer without the constant fear of losing my home or falling behind on basic necessities.
Every donation—no matter the size—provides peace of mind and allows me to focus on healing.
If you’re unable to donate, please consider sharing my story. Your prayers, positive thoughts, and support truly mean more to me than words can express.
Thank you for standing with me in this fight.
With gratitude,
Rene “Alex” Monterrosa
