This is it! I finally booked my top surgery for JUNE 23RD 2022, but I am in desperate need of help. My name is Alexander Colon and I am an eighteen-year-old transgender male. I came out as transgender back in 2016 at the age of twelve years old, and since then have actively been trying to medically transition, and it has not been easy. When I was fifteen years old, I met with a top surgeon and was informed I could get top surgery so long I had the money or insurance approval, but since I come from an extremely low income family, paying out of pocket wasn’t an option. So there began a three year trail and error period of my mother graciously changing insurances for me in attempts to get some sort of coverage, only to consistently be denied. I even had another GoFundMe but there were problems with the bank and they took all that money I fundraised for myself ($1k). Then, at seventeen years old, I began my employment with Starbucks Coffee Company in hopes that when I turned eighteen, their health benefits would allow me to get my surgery covered. When I turned eighteen, I immediately got to work on trying to get Starbucks to cover my surgery, and despite going by the book and trying to do everything right, I inevitably got screwed over and am unable to get the surgery covered by Starbucks Corporation despite only deciding to work there for that reason. My personal health insurance provided by Starbucks approved to pay a small amount for my chest masculinization surgery, which leaves me with an $7,538.00 out of pocket remainder that I and no family member of mine are able to pay alone under any circumstance. We continue to get denied for any sort of credit loan that could potentially alleviate that financal stress, so now I am resorting to asking people for help. I went ahead and scheduled the date for surgery with optimism that I will be able to reach my fundraising goal and get the surgery I have been trying to get since fifteen years old.
