Hello! As much as I don’t like to ask for help, I feel stuck and like I very much need to right now, to at least bring my checking account positive and pay rent to maintain my room in the house I’m very much looking forward to
getting back to!
As many reading this will know, I suffered an unfortunate accident on my Honda Metropolitan (rip) in the wee hours of July 21, 2024. I was told of gov programs to help cover rent in these situations and as I was on the trauma floor at Legacy Emanuel, beginning to recover from surgery, etc; I was starting to look into them. Unfortunately, none have panned out yet. I do have applications active with SSDI and Paid Leave Oregon, but they are unfortunately stuck in processing at the moment, which is of course adding to / one of my main sources of anxiety in this moment. I’m really hoping they’ll come through in the next week but this is of little solace to my housemates who covered my end of rent at the start of August and feel they’re facing that real possibility yet again.
I’m currently doing well on the road of recovery at Glisan Care Center - recovering from a broken femur, fibula, fractured calcaneus, several fractured ribs, and sacrum, as well as multiple pelvic fractures. In the past week, I’ve been doing well with learning to stand again, finding my balance - which was sometimes tough before but i think my silly self likes to think it’s easier with multiple rods in my leg. Unfortunately, my finances weren’t glowing prior to this accident, but I’m thankful as all heck I was at least able to get back onto Oregon Health Plan which is paying for my stay here. It’s my hope to return to my house at toward the end of September and experience beautiful Oregon fall on my back porch with my cat, and adjust to being a person in a house and hopefully have some sort of totally new and different work set up very soon afterward.
Unfortunately, while I’m waiting on that government money to come in, I have money owed to CareCredit (originally taken out for cat emergency a couple years ago), my Alaska card and PayPal credit - all of which were not much of a problem when I was solidly working week in, week out.
I’m currently very much at a loss and of course, main priority is maintaining my room in my house, and truly rectifying my checking account, then satisfying my creditors - in that order. If I could somehow afford a burrito in between, my bum legs would try to jump for joy. I’m very much at a loss and have no clue when this government money will materialize. I set the amount where it is but will of course be thankful for any help whatsoever.
Sincerely,
Alexander J Brown
funds breakdown:
my portion of rent is $790
which my housemates covered for August and are afraid they’ll be forced to for September which will further put them in a bind I really don’t wish on them. So, $1580 will cover paying them back for last month and covering my portion for September. My checking acct is also unfortunately almost minus $300. I also owe almost $400 in credit card debt. I was afraid / apprehensive to make this that full amount but $2100 will at least get my close to breaking even.
