Dear Friends,

My name is Sydney and I live in Hendersonville, NC. I am starting this fundraiser to help my brother & sister-in-law as they rebuild their home in the aftermath of hurricane Helene. As a WNC native myself, no one anticipated the amount of widespread damage and destruction we would see. My siblings, Alex & Brenda purchased their first home just 7 months ago. Their home was not within a recorded flood zone, however, due to the heavy rains a nearby river quickly began to rise much higher than normal. All seemed to be fine, and then they had 10 minutes to grab what they could and get out as water quickly began surrounding their home. They waded through chest deep water to get to higher ground. Their house sustained a foot of water and they lost a vehicle, most of their furniture, appliances, and electronics. As half of their home sat spread across their front yard, the hardest things to lose were the one's that couldn't be replaced, my brother's childhood bible and their wedding box. (I've attached additional pictures below).

After getting my sister out, my brother returned to the house where he had a small boat in the garage. He used his driveway as a boat ramp and immediately began going from home to home to help get his neighbors and their pets to safety. With the help of another neighbor, they was able to help rescue over a dozen people.

Alex and Brenda both work in the medical field. They are constantly helping others, but would never think of asking others for help. They are currently staying with family, as they work to gut their home, dry it out, and begin renovations. Their home insurance has denied them and they are still waiting to meet with FEMA. They have lost SO much and will have a lot of needs in the upcoming months as they work to rebuild their home and life. Money raised will go directly to them and assist with building supplies and household items they will need to replace. Please consider donating if you are able, as any little bit will help!
