Hi, my name is Alex, and I’m facing a very difficult situation. I’m in the middle of a housing transition, and there’s a one-month gap between when my current lease ends and when my new lease begins. Unfortunately, during this time, I have nowhere else to go — without support, I would be left without shelter.
Thankfully, my future apartment complex has offered me a temporary unit for the month of June so I won’t be on the street. The problem is: I still have to finish out my current lease — meaning I’m expected to pay double rent until the lease is up. And I simply can’t afford that.
As someone living with disabilities, my healthcare costs are already overwhelming. Between rising medication prices and essential doctor visits, there are many months I can’t even afford the treatment I need. I also have two ESA (emotional support) cats who are vital to my well-being. Their care is another expense I try to manage monthly.
I’ve tried everything I can think of, but I’m out of options. Asking for help like this is incredibly difficult for me. I’m trying everything I can to stay afloat. But the reality is: if I can’t raise enough to cover this extra period of rent, I will be unhoused. And as a queer, disabled person, that is a deeply unsafe and terrifying possibility.
If you’re able to help — whether by donating, sharing, or just offering kind words — it would mean the world to me. Truly. Thank you for taking the time to read my story.
With gratitude,
Alex
