Help Alessia on her Journey

Donation protected
My name is Sonia and my family consists of my husband Tony, 55 years old, and our children, Cosimo 28 years old, Jesse, and Alessia 18 years old.

Tony has been diagnosed with multiple sclerosis (MS). He is confined to a wheelchair and requires physical assistance for all his personal care and transfers.

Cosimo has a seizure disorder and learning disability.  He struggles with anger and behaviour issues and is being counselled so that he can better cope and continue to participate as a productive member of society.

In 2001, we suffered a devastating loss, our beautiful baby girl Jesse passed away at the tender age of two, due to complications from a mitochondrial disease and congestive heart failure.

Alessia, now 18 years old by the grace of God, was diagnosed at the age of 18 months with the same mitochondrial disease as her sister Jesse, as well as seizure disorder.  The last 3 years have also presented another challenge for her as she now also has to live with vision loss.  Alessia too uses a wheelchair for her mobility.

I am Sonia, the sole caregiver to my family, a family I love with all my heart, as it is in serving them that I serve Jesus.

If you could make a difference in the life of an incredible woman, would you take the opportunity?

My name is Mike and over the last 15 years, I have had the pleasure of befriending and knowing the Commisso family, including Alessia. Alessia is a young woman who faces life challenges with the strength that few people possess. She has taught me, how adversity is a challenge and not an excuse.

The Commisso family are truly in need of a new wheelchair accessible vehicle. Transportation allows the family to engage in life without the limitations that few of us know. They are also in need of other medical equipment on a regular basis and your donation will help to improve everyday life for the family

I am asking for your financial support as well as effort, to widely share, the following Go Fund Me page.

It is never about how much you can give it is the gift of giving that will make the difference for this family and we will do this.

Hello everyone,
Thank you for taking the time to read our family story. This GoFundMe page was originally set up by a dear friend of ours to help fundraise for a new wheelchair accessible van for our family. However, since this fundraiser was created, many various needs have arised which made the purchase of the van a lower priority for us. I want to ensure that the funds raised in this GoFundMe are so very much appreciated and needed and every dollar is put to good use in our family.

Here are some of the changes and needs:
Tony required a new power wheelchair, a new shower and bathing commode.
Alessia requires a new wheelchair, with a battery power pack.
As well, she has the ongoing need for various types of therapies.
Alessia has vision needs.
Finally, Tony and Alessia need assistance with daily care, and thus a need for a PSW or nursing supports is imperative.

My family is still quite young and many should note that these needs are ongoing. Just as the average family outgrows a pair of shoes, so too do the needs of my family change over time. For example, the size of a wheelchair at age 14 is not the same size as age 18.

If you have supported my family financially or spiritually or in any way, I thank you and appreciate your love for us.

May God bless you in great abundance always,
Sonia
