On September 29, 2021, at age 29, my cousin Alen Mulahmetovic was rushed to the hospital after a sudden seizure at the gym. In the coming weeks he underwent countless scans, biopsies and brain surgery, which confirmed he has Grade 3 Oligodendroglioma, a rare and fast-growing brain cancer.

The diagnosis has been an extremely difficult one for our family to process. But there have been many conversations with doctors about promising new treatments, such as proton therapy, that are safer and not as invasive as traditional options. Unsurprisingly, most aren't covered by his insurance. My family is seeking the best treatment possible, regardless of cost. But not having that financial burden would go a long way in allowing them to focus their time and energy on supporting Alen instead of seeking additional employment opportunities.

Alen was born a fighter, having dedicated his youth and early adulthood to his MMA fighting career. We have no doubt that he will give this fight his all, especially with the support of his family, friends and community.
