Alejandro’s medical fund

This is Alejandro; he lives in Honduras and is 13 years old. He is an affectionate, intelligent boy with great nobility. Unfortunately, he was diagnosed with autism at four years old. Despite his diagnosis, he overcame many obstacles in his development, surpassing our expectations; he is in 8th grade and excels academically. But, unfortunately, he has to carry a heavy load. In December 2021, he was diagnosed with Marfan Syndrome; this is a genetic disorder that affects the connective tissue, the fibers that support the organs and other structures of the body, mainly the heart, the eyes, blood vessels and skeleton. He was also diagnosed with scoliosis, and he will need to wear a Boston-type orthopedic corset permanently. He also needs a frenectomy that affects his speech.

His diagnosis has accelerated bone growth, which causes deformities in his spine, legs, feet, and hands. As a result, he requires a series of tests, including pituitary MRI, abdominal and testicular USG, bone age in the left hand, to initiate timely treatment and prevent further complications.

In Honduras, no organizations or foundations help patients with this diagnosis, and medical expenses are high; testing must be done out of the country. Since it is considered a pre-existing condition, medical insurances do not cover several of these tests. In addition, our public hospitals do not have the resources for such diagnoses. Most doctor visits require lab work and treatments. Doctors must do a genetic study. However, it needs to be sent to the US for results.

So far, his parents have been able to pay for some of the tests to get him started, but it is challenging for them to pay for everything that is needed. They want most to offer him the best quality of life within his limitations, and it can only be achieved by providing him with timely medical care. This is why we are asking for donations in order for Alejandro to receive the care he needs and deserves. As a family, we will be grateful for any support you can give us.
