Help Alejandra raise money for her Dental Exams

Hi, my name is Alejandra and I am a Qualified Dentist from Chile, South America.

I am raising funds to cover the costs of a Practical Exam required to get my Dentist Qualification in Australia.

I began this journey in April 2021 with an Initial Assessment that took over eight months to process. Next, I faced the Written Examination, which cost 2,000 AUD each time, and I had to take it three times: in March 2022, September 2022, and March 2023 (which I passed). Finally, I attempted the Practical Examination, which cost 4,650 AUD each time, and I have taken it twice: in March 2024 and October 2024, but unfortunately, I have failed both times.

This entire experience has cost me over 20,000 AUD when I consider not only the exam fee itself, but also the courses I’ve taken, the materials I’ve purchased, and the flights I’ve booked. Additionally, I’ve had to stop working to dedicate time to studying and preparing for this arbitrary exam.

The past four years have been the most frustrating of my life. I've found myself caught in a cycle where I can only work as a dental nurse for a few months each year. During this time, I save enough money to pay for my exam, but afterward, I end up completely broke. Fortunately, I have a supportive partner, but after such a long time, I’ve grown tired of investing everything into an exam only to lose it all in the end.

I want to explain that this exam has a success rate of less than 10%, and most candidates from around the world fail repeatedly. This situation is particularly interesting given the recognized shortage of dental practitioners, especially in rural and remote areas, which indicates a pressing need for more dentists across the country.

Living in Tasmania, I could significantly contribute to the local community here.

I plan to take the Practical Examination again this year, (Cost: 4,750 AUD) and to ensure I pass, I have enrolled in a course (Cost: 5,000 AUD) that will help me improve my skills. The course is based in Brisbane, so I need to factor in the costs of traveling there twice, in March and May, as well as accommodation expenses.

I am passionate about Dentistry, and once I pass my exam, I plan to give back to the community by providing exceptional oral healthcare. I am also committed to educating others about achieving optimal dental health with enthusiasm and care.
