Help Alejandra and Roberto with Sarah's Medical Bills

Hello everyone!

I am raising money to help my sister (Alejandra Rivera), and brother-in-law (Roberto Rivera), to pay for my niece’s (Sarah Camila Rivera) hospital bills of over $8,500 from when they came to visit me in the US.

A few months ago, my sister, brother-in-law, and 6-year-old niece came to the US for the first time to visit me in Maryland. Unfortunately, two days after arriving, my niece became seriously ill with vomiting and needed urgent medical attention and we had to take her to the ER due to dehydration. Fortunately, after receiving an IV, her condition improved quickly. However, the doctor decided to perform an ultrasound and transfer her by ambulance to the Children’s branch of Inova Hospital, as her sugar levels were extremely low. She was admitted to the hospital and stayed overnight for observation. Her condition kept improving and she was released the next day. This entire process resulted in bills of over $8,500.

This amount is extremely high compared to salaries in Ecuador! A typical salary is $500 per month. The amount of these medical bills is equivalent to a 10th of the cost of a house in Ecuador. We have tried to apply to various organizations for help, but unfortunately, they were denied because they do not reside in the US.

My sister and her family live in the Amazon region of Ecuador. My brother-in-law is the leader of his branch at his church. Both of them work and are very active in their community, always helping others when needed.

The purpose of this page is to build support to help them with these bills as it has been a struggle for them in gathering the necessary funds. They plan on paying this debt as they always do the right thing. Any contributions will help alleviate some of the stress and burden on them, especially my sister, who is also 7 months pregnant.
