My twenty-eight-year-old son, Alec, went to see his primary care physician shortly after Thanksgiving because he wasn't feeling well. He’d been coughing a lot lately. As an occasional asthma sufferer this wasn’t too unusual, but this time he’d coughed up blood. An X-ray and subsequent CAT scan revealed what doctors feared was a large (11cm x 16cm) malignant tumor in his lung.
Over the last two months, Alec has been in and out of the hospital for tests as doctors have worked diligently to obtain a precise diagnosis. They determined it is a rare type of cancer called a ROS1 rearrangement, or ROS1-positive lung cancer. This type of lung cancer appears in only 1 to 2% of lung cancer patients.
All those who know and love Alec are obviously devastated by this news, but hopeful, too. The treatment plan involves targeted medication therapy to hopefully shrink the tumor enough to allow surgery to be performed in 6-9 months.
Alec has remained upbeat throughout this journey. He is not alone. In addition to his family and friends, he is joined on this journey by his wonderful wife, Lyndsey, and their adorable baby girl, Lucy, who, regardless of circumstances, manages to make everyone smile.
We are asking for any help you can provide to assist Alec and his family with medical bills and possibly living expenses, as Alec is not able to work at present. Any donation will help and would be very much appreciated. Kindly please share this if you can so we can get as much help for him as possible.
I will be providing updates about his progress here so you can celebrate with us.
Thank you so very much!❤️❤️
