Help Aldonna fight her 5th Cancer

ALDONNA’s FIFTH CANCER

December Update from Aldonna Ambler:

The aggressive clinical trial in 2019 "failed to achieve desired results." The harsh chemo of 2020 has led to over a dozen emergency surgeries re. internal bleeding. So I am glad to be alive, relieved I haven't developed the virus, and am hopeful that 2021 brings less drama for everyone.
This is my 5th type of cancer (no repeats) and this time it is 4th stage metastatic bone seeking breast cancer. It was diagnosed 14 months after a double mastectomy.
The pandemic has adversely impacted just about everyone. I realize this is a terrible time to do any fundraising. But imagine all of the virus related problems with a painful incurable cancer on top of all of that. It is exhausting, isolating and expensive.
Cancer cells eat healthy cells for dinner and eat cash for appetizer and dessert. Yes, I have Medicare + health insurance but ... you have heard the stories.
The fundraiser is for medical and basic bills. There are no extravagances here, with the exception of some small Christmas gifts to grand nieces and grand nephews. I don't live in a Mac Mansion. I drive a 15 year old 150,000 mile car. No travel, dining, etc.
An example is the ambulance company bill. With over a dozen emergency surgeries, that one bill is greater than all of my fixed income.
My relatives know that my retirement fund went to the hospital when my husband passed away after 6 years of multiple myeloma. I tried to be prepared. But it wasn't enough for 5 cancers.
I thank my God Daughter, Lauren, for sponsoring this. She talked me into finally asking for help. My Dad was a USMarine so I grew up with "no excuses", "just keep going" , etc. I'm a fighter and keep doing my part but it's obvious I need some help.

About Aldonna Ambler:

You may know that Aldonna Ambler was her husband’s primary caretaker for 6 years that included a few bone marrow transplants and countless rounds of chemotherapy, radiation and hospitalizations. His medication (when he wasn’t in the hospital) cost $15,000/day. Despite health insurance, Aldonna was hit with a huge hospital bill upon his death in 2007. Her retirement fund was depleted by the 10 years of monthly installments.

You may also know that Aldonna’s neck was reconstructed following a serious accident in 2001. Plus, she now also has two intraspinal neurostimulators to sustain the flow of spinal fluid. She kept her business open during all of that to fulfill commitments to clients and employees.

The UNIVERSE thanked her for doing all of that by giving her cancer…. not once or twice but 5 times! While still getting physical therapy 3 days/week, she spent an entire year of 2019 doing weekly dermatology biopsies, minor surgeries and medication for skin cancer. A partial mastectomy followed by 13 weeks of daily radiation was needed in 2010 for ductile breast cancer. Her vocal cords were seriously damaged when her cancerous thyroid was surgically removed in 2014. In 2017, tumor based-breast cancer required a double mastectomy and medication. 14 months later, in 2019, she was diagnosed with 4th stage metastatic bone seeking breast cancer. You read this correctly. She was diagnosed with metastatic breast cancer AFTER the double mastectomy. She has had over 30 surgeries, many with serious post op infections.

Aldonna was in an aggressive clinical trial for the entire year in 2019. Since then, immunologists and oncologists have kept her in a “bubble”. For the past 19 months, the only “guests” to her home-based bubble are the visiting nurses who look like astronauts because they are covered head to toe in green PPE. Most appointments with the team of specialists are via ZOOM. Treatments are administered in her home. Her dining room looks like an emergency room. Unfortunately, despite numerous precautions, she has been in and out of hospitals due to dehydration, debilitating side effects, pain, and treatment rejection.

Aldonna recently learned that the bone seeking metastatic breast cancer she has does not put tumors ON bones. It is more like her late husband’s Multiple Myeloma, which eats bone…creates lesions/potholes IN the bones. This eliminates surgical options that are sometimes possible for tumor based cancers. Surgeons are now considering installing a spinal cage. It looks like a long thin bird feeder. A variety of wires are wrapped around the spine to reduce the severity of compression fractures and/or prevent collapse. Her torso has already been measured, but Aldonna will need a lot more information before agreeing to this. Her cousin, Janet, had bone seeking metastatic breast cancer and passed away fairly soon after a small section of spinal cage was installed.

Imagine living with the pain caused by bone lesions, debilitating side effects from cancer treatments, being unable to work, relying on deliveries, knowing the cancer is not curable… all on top of the pandemic, the challenged economy, and the civil unrest.

If you have been sent a copy of this, you already know that Aldonna has lived a purpose driven life. If the topic could help privately held businesses to keep growing, she was on it! She has helped thousands of companies through her speeches, consulting, publication, weekly talk show, board roles, and advocacy/expert testimony at legislative hearings and other volunteer roles.
Raised by a former US Marine, she has always been a “no excuses/just keep going/accept responsibility/don’t expect charity” kind of a person. But she needs our help.

If you have not had serious cancer or been a caretaker, you may not know that CANCER eats healthy cells for dinner and CASH for appetizer and dessert.

Aldonna would have needed to set aside 4-5 times what her financial advisors had recommended to her.

There is a HUGE pile of medical bills, but right now we are seeking at least $12,000 for immediately needed medical transportation, copays and medication

About the funds:
All funds are going directly to Aldonna Ambler. They are going primarily to medical insurance and procedures, transportation to and from appointments, and other immediate costs like food and housing. Our ultimate goal is to not only cover the immediate costs associated with fighting cancer so we can help extend Aldonna’s life, but to also help cut down on the outstanding debt from previous years. We will endeavor to post updates and stretch goals as time goes on.

If there are any questions about funding, please do not hesitate to contact the campaign administrator.

Note from the Administrator:
Hello, my name is Lauren Bassett and Aldonna Ambler is my beloved Aunt and Godmother. She, and her husband Chet, had been a wonderful and loving presence in my and my family's lives since before my parents even got married. She has encouraged and helped guide me and my older siblings as we grew up. I will never forget her reminding me I am Fabulous and Loved at the times in my life I needed to hear it the most. She is one of the people I most wish to emulate for my own niece (and any future nieces and/or nephews).

When she asked me to help run this campaign I didn't hesitate. Aldonna Ambler is a wonderful woman; one who has always gone above and beyond to bring happiness and success to the lives of the people she meets. I ask that you consider donating today so that we can keep this Fabulous lady in our lives for even just a little bit longer.

I thank you for your consideration. Please donate if you can and/or continue to pass on the word about this fundraiser.
