Help Albus Lose a Leg

Albus’s Story
Hi, I’m Catherine and I’m raising money for our sweet three year old rescue mutt, Albus, who desperately needs surgery. Several weeks ago, Albus began limping. Because he’s an active guy who never remembers to stretch before the zoomies hit, a brief limp wasn’t unusual, but this time it didn’t go away. Multiple vet visits and lots of rest later, it was clear that his leg was only getting worse, and the pain was becoming unbearable, even with medication. The vet suspected Albus may have torn his ACL and took x-rays of his leg to confirm it - but what the x-rays showed was a lesion on the bone, which is most often caused by osteosarcoma, an aggressive bone cancer. There is no cure for osteosarcoma, but dogs can live without pain for years after having the affected limb amputated and receiving chemotherapy.
Three Legs and a Spare
For Albus to have a chance at life, that painful leg’s gotta go as soon as possible. There is a saying that dogs and cats are born with “three legs and a spare” - and his whole support team is confident that shortly after surgery, Albus will be able to return to the activities he loves but is currently in too much pain to enjoy: playing tug, long walks, jumping up on the bed to cuddle during bedtime stories with his favorite kids, and destroying stuffed animals.
How You Can Help
Fortunately our pet insurance will cover much of the surgery (get pet insurance, y’all) but our portion is still likely to be $2,000-3,000. His surgery is next week and we need to pay up front!
Donations will go toward the cost of his surgery, which is scheduled for May 15th, and supplies to help Albus adjust to life as a tripod, such as a recovery vest. Every little bit helps. Thank you so much!
