Help Albert in his journey to a liver transplant

Donation protected
Hello, my name is Angie and I am fundraising for my husband Albert McGhee. We were married in June of 2013 and about 5 months later found out that he had an autoimmune disease called primary sclerosing cholangits (PSC). This disease has no rhyme or reason as to who it attacks or why, but it has chosen Albert. We were told then that PSC could be inactive and some people never have any trouble out of it. Other people have major symptoms causing multiple problems. Well, this is Albert's situation. The PSC caused horrific ulcerative cholitis, which resulted in him having to get all of his lower intestines removed and have an ileostomy that can never be reversed. For the past year, we have been struggling with liver issues as the PSC thinks his liver is a foreign object and has been attacking his liver to the point he is now on the transplant list at Duke University. We have already had to make multiple trips for testing and several hospital stays this year alone. At a recent visit earlier this week we were told that the score they use to determine how quickly he needs a transplant has jumped significantly. What does this mean? Well, it is time to begin preparing for the transplant. What does this mean for us? When he is matched with a liver, he will be in the hospital for 10-14 days and has to stay within one hour's distance from Duke for a minimum of 30 days. This means we will have to relocate for a minimum of 4 weeks. We had our first "dry run" on 11/21...meaning we went for a transplant, but did not get the organ. So far we have been able to handle this financially. Mostly because his co-workers, employer and some special friends have made donations to help us cover travel expenses. Albert had to be in the hospital for 9 days in June, which pretty much wiped out the remainder of those donations. We will also be starting a new deductible period on January 1st, which means we will be responsible for the first $3,000 of all medical before our insurance begins to pick up a portion of the cost and another $3,000 out of pocket after that. This is the reason I made the goal on our gofundme so high. I will also be starting a caring bridge site for everyone to keep up with Albert's progress as we proceed. We are thankful for all financial help and especially all prayers.
