Help Alba in her battle against Alzheimer's

My mother, Alba Bermúdez de Perdomo, is 75 years old and dedicated her life to teaching English in her native Venezuela. In 2017, she was diagnosed with Alzheimer's, a disease that has painfully transformed her life and ours.

For our family, living with her illness has been a daily struggle. Furthermore, migrating to Colombia has been difficult: she deeply misses her grandchildren, friends, and the places that shaped her life. Adding to this is the difficulty of accessing professional care, medication, and psychological support due to the barriers we face with our Venezuelan documentation.

Our migration story was captured in this video we made at the beginning of the pandemic: That Lighthouse in My Darkness. However, the health crisis left us without formal employment and without a social support network, making it even harder to provide her with the care she needs.

Today, the Alzheimer's has progressed: Mom no longer recognizes her children, she has stopped writing, and she can barely speak. She has lost her motor skills, her vision is deteriorating due to cataracts, she is incontinent, and she has forgotten the activities that once filled her life with joy: painting, knitting, reading, and tending her garden.

We are organizing this campaign to cover her basic and medical needs:
* Medications
* Diapers
* Wheelchair
* Hospital bed
* Adaptations for her mobility
* Specialized nutrition and care
Alba was an exemplary woman: a mother, wife, sister, and teacher who gave her best to her students. She was also an artist, gardener, and a generous friend who knitted blankets and shoes for the babies of those around her.

Today we want to honor her and give back some of the love she always gave us. Your support will allow us to provide her with dignified care and alleviate the burden this illness has placed on our family.

If you are unable to donate, we ask that you accompany us with your prayers or words of encouragement. You can write to us at [email redacted], and we will gladly respond to your messages.

Your generosity is an invaluable gift to us. With faith and gratitude, we are confident that God will multiply your good intentions.

Eternally grateful,
The Perdomo Bermúdez Family
