Help Alan Regain His Freedom with a Handicap Van
Donation protected
Hello,
My name is Alan payne. Some of you reading this may already know me, but for those who don’t—I’m 25 years old and was diagnosed with a rare genetic disorder called GNE Myopathy ( also know as hereditary inclusion body myopathy) when I was 18. This condition causes progressive muscle weakness, and over time it’s made everyday task more and more challenging.
My biggest challenge right now is my 2005 Dodge wheelchair-accessible van has unfortunately broken down. Due to its age, replacement parts are either discontinued or extremely hard to find, making repair nearly impossible. Right know my parents and friends get me where I need to go like work, appointments, events, etc. But without a wheelchair van transportation has become a huge obstacle. Each trip involves physically lifting me in and out of car/truck and manually disassembling and reassembling my wheelchair. It’s exhausting and far from ideal for anyone, especially someone with a progressive muscle condition.
In my old van I was able to automatically put a ramp down/up and drive right up to the driver seat and take off. That van gave me freedom and independence—things that are increasingly important to me as my condition progresses.
I have been approved for financing on a newer model van, but it is not enough for the newer model wheelchair vans. They are extremely expensive, that’s why I’m reaching out. I have applied for two grants that, if approved, will provide me help with my purchase but the financing + grants only get me half of what’s needed to make the purchase.
I’m asking for your help to raise funds toward a reliable handicap accessible van so I can maintain my independence. Every single donation, no matter the amount, brings me one step closer to that goal.
If you have read this far— thank you! Whether you are able to donate, share, or simply send some encouragement, it means the world to me!
