Help Alan Browning Retired Firefighter Battle Stage 4 Cancer
Donation protected
After serving 24 years in the fire service and retiring as an Assistant Fire Chief and paramedic, Alan has been diagnosed with Stage 4 Non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma, which has spread to multiple organs including his heart. Originating on his spinal cord, it has caused severe damage, leaving him paralyzed.
He went from being a strong, fearless man running into fires saving lives, helping people in their times of need, and training other firefighters, to being diagnosed a paraplegic, riddled with cancer.
Alan is now in the fight of his life.
After spending his career as a dedicated public servant and dedicating his time to his local community, Veterans, family, and friends, he needs our help now.
Alan completed radiation for the tumor on his spine to prevent further paralysis. He started R-CHOP chemotherapy last week, which he will have infused every 21 days. Due to his lymphoma being so aggressive, they’ve since added another chemotherapy to his regimen that will require several days of inpatient hospitalization every 15 days after his chemotherapy infusion. This will also involve the administration of IV antibiotics and fluids. All these treatments involve an hour's commute each way.
Once he has completed his chemotherapy regimen, he will have to relocate to Charlotte, NC for a 3-week hospital stay, where he will receive a “chemo blast” and receive his own stem cells back via a transplant in hopes of full remission. This may also require a 100-day relocation to be monitored after the transplant.
All donations will go directly to Alan and his wife to help with his medical bills (some medications are not covered by insurance), transportation, and lodging for chemo treatments, as well as to help pay bills. Although his wife works full-time, she is trying to balance time off to get him to and from all his appointments and provide the care he needs at home. She has no PTO left, leaving them with the loss of her income and Alan’s supplemental income.
Alan and Mindi appreciate you taking time out of your day to read his story. While they understand that some of you may not be able to donate, they believe in the power of prayer and appreciate all the prayers they can get for strength and healing!
After Alan’s cancer treatments and rehab, any surplus funds will be directed to cancer research or donated to the cancer clinic donation funds to help other cancer patients in need. Please forward and share, as we all know there’s power in numbers.
