We are Madhav Narayan and Nishanth Sujesh, two students of an incredible 83-year-old musician named Al Ynigues. Al has dedicated his entire life to teaching and sharing music, touching the lives of countless students over the years. Despite his age and financial challenges, teaching music—guitar and piano—remains his passion and his only source of income. His Social Security barely covers his assisted housing through Dakota County, and the lessons he teaches help him afford basic daily needs.
Recently, Al’s aging van broke down and is now beyond affordable repair. Without a working vehicle, he cannot travel to teach lessons, transport instruments for recitals, or earn the limited income he relies on. On top of this, there is a real risk that he could lose his assisted housing if federal funding for the program is cut, making his financial situation even more precarious. Losing transportation hasn’t just affected him financially—it’s taken away his independence, his routine, and the joy he finds in helping students grow. We are hoping to raise enough money to help him purchase a reliable used van or larger vehicle so he can continue doing what he loves, transport instruments for lessons and recitals, and maintain his livelihood. Any extra funds will provide a cushion in case he loses his housing support.
Al is humble, kind, and someone who would never ask for help himself, which is why we are organizing this fundraiser on his behalf. Every donation, no matter the amount, will make a meaningful difference. Thank you for helping us support a teacher who has spent his whole life giving so much to others.
