Help Al Khayrat continue to support the inner city

Donation protected
We are an inner city mosque on the border of South East Washington DC and Southern Maryland, namely Oxon Hill. We are uniquely situated in Maryland 10 minutes from Old Town Alexandria and 10 minutes from downtown Washington DC. However, the area where we are has seen some harsh conditions with many homeless and low income people in our area continuing to struggle. Five years ago the masjid was turned over to me as the previous mosque that was there was unable to sustain it. With the support and love of all my friends and family in the community we were able to cover operational costs while we grew. I now serve as both the Imam (prayer leader) and the Executive Director guiding our food service programs.

Some of the efforts we manage to do consist of several food programs including brown bag lunches, hot meals in the city, hot meals after jummuah, and a fully stocked food pantry. All these programs we offer are free. Last year in conjunction with Project Affinity we were able to serve more than 25,000 meals and we pray we are able to do even more this year by expanding these programs and starting new ones. A new initiative we are looking to start is a sustainable community garden so we can begin to offer fresh produce to our community in sha Allah.

The funds gathered will help pay our operational costs for the next year so we can focus our funds on our programs for the community. This masjid is needed for the people who are often overlooked. We are trying to bring to the city what the suburbs have had. We have brought such luminaries as Habib Ubaydullah Al Attas, Shaykh AbdulKarim Yahya, Shaykh Muhammad Mendes, Imam Fode Drame, Shaykha Ieasha Prime, Shaykh Hamza Wald Maqbul and Imam Amin Muhammad among others.

Help us to continue to support those less fortunate and bring them the resources they need to get closer to our beloved messenger of Allah peace be upon him and Allah

Here is an update and a thank you. We appreciate all the support the community has given to us to help the less fortunate.

Funds from this campaign directly supplement the cost of these programs. Other monthly donations from within the mosque pay the remainder. All of these funds will help us continue to provide and hopefully increase the work we are doing.

Food pantry- stocked with no perishables, eggs, milk, fresh bread from Panera, and fresh hand slaughtered chicken.

Grate Patrol- We have partnered with the Salvation Army in DC and we use their food truck with their driver and go around the city stopping at all of the homeless camps and feeding hot food, drinks and snacks.

Community Lunch - We come together and make fresh deli sliced sandwiches and make bagged lunches that include chips a drink and granola bar. Sometimes there’s some candy or a nice greeting card or a beautifully colored lunch bag made by some of the kid volunteers.

Jummuah Hot Meal- The midday Friday prayer is the mandatory date the Muslims have to go to the mosque for the prayer and sermon. After every prayer we serve hot food to anyone who needs it.

Graden- lastly, we will be starting a new program. A sustainable community garden. We are very excited to work towards being able to provide fresh produce to the people in Al Khayrat.

All of these food services are free
