Shoppers at the Lincoln Park Farmer's Market last week were all thrilled to see Al and Lindee of Broken "K" Ranch. We all missed buying their fabulous eggs, chickens, and meats these last weeks. As many of you might know, Al suffered a blood clot while he was having surgery in October, resulting in a stroke affecting his left side. He has been a warrior working at his rehab so that he and Lindee could return to the market this past weekend, but he still has a long way to go.
We all can imagine how much work it is to keep up Broken "K" on a daily basis. Al and Lindee have over 100 chickens that need to be fed and watered so that they produce (the best) eggs that need to be collected twice a day. Then there is the coop and yard that need to be cleaned often. They have 30-35 cows that need hay and grain two times a day—morning and evening. The cattle shed needs to be cleaned as needed. The Berkshire pigs need to be fed. They also have two "pain-in-the-neck" goats named Cinnamon and Sally. On market days, they are up at 2 in the morning to get their trailer loaded and on the road. Now, with cold weather setting in, all these chores will be amplified by the need to break up the ice and keep water thawed. All this, and Al needs to be focusing on his rehab and not climbing ladders to check grain storage. Our hope is to raise $8,000 from our Lincoln Park Farmers Market friends in order to give Al and Lindee some breathing room and allow them to hire some help for the next months while Al continues to concentrate on his rehabilitation. Will you please join us and make a donation to support this effort so we can all support Al and Lindee at this time?
Thank you!
