Akyli came into our lives last December after being passed between several families. At first, we took him in as a foster, but within the week I couldn’t imagine continuing to confuse him. Even though financially it would be difficult and my work requires me to be outside of my home most of the day, I decided to put him first and make sacrifices so he never felt abandoned again. When we took him in, he was underweight and in need of care. The first thing we did was get him neutered, but his recovery was complicated and we faced several challenges right from the start. Despite everything, Akyli quickly became a beloved part of our family, and we have done everything we can to give him a safe and loving home.
Recently, Akyli was diagnosed with diabetes and had to be admitted to the emergency room because he was showing symptoms of diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA) and a urinary tract infection. The doctors expect he will need to stay in the hospital for a few days to stabilize his condition. We have also made several trips to the vet for concerns about Cushing's syndrome, and the costs have quickly added up. Our family has helped us financially along the way, but this new diagnosis is something we are not prepared for.
We want to give Akyli the best chance at a happy, healthy life with us for as long as possible. We don’t even know his exact age—different doctors have estimated anywhere from 5 to 9 years old—but we know he deserves a loving home. The funds raised will go directly toward his hospital stay, medication, and ongoing care. However much we are able to collect, we are deeply grateful for your support. Thank you for taking the time to read Akyli’s story and for any help you can give.
