Hi, my name is Akira Gaspard, I am 18 years old, I am deaf and attend the Louisiana School for the Deaf in Baton Rouge. I have a once in a lifetime opportunity to attend the Rochester Institute of Technology Medical/Nursing Camp in New York this July and have already been accepted but need some help getting there. While there aren’t many opportunities or services available here in Louisiana, I do have this amazing opportunity to explore and further my education as a deaf person. I am very proud of my culture and my goal is to become a registered nurse and to bring better medical assistance to not only the hearing public but also for my fellow deaf community in our home state. I have received a scholarship for the program itself but need assistance with flights, boarding, transportation and meals. I am hoping to raise enough for my mother to travel with me as I have never traveled alone or been on a plane and I need her help with interpreting. I appreciate any and all help I can get.
