AKEIDA: CROWDFUNDIG (FRENCH AND ENGLISH VERSION)

VERSION RESUMÉE:

Pour ceux qui ne me connaissent pas encore, je m’appelle Luis Lima Faria et je suis un médecin portugais. J’ai fait mes études à Barcelone, puis je suis venu en Suisse pour faire ma spécialité en médecine interne.

Je suis allé en Espagne pour faire médecine car je n'avais pas le niveau académique pour le faire au Portugal.

Je vous raconte tout ça parce que j’ai littéralement  rencontré quelqu’un dans la rue qui n'a pas eu la même chance que moi.

Il s'appelle Akeida , il est un migrant indonésien qui a laissé son pays pour aider sa famille qui vivent dans des conditions de pauvreté extrême.

Malheureusement la Suisse ne lui permet pas de vivre ici ni de gagner sa vie, malgré que la seule chose qu'il demande c'est du travail pour aider sa famille. 


Sa situation ici devient insoutenable et, maintenant, il veut que rentrer chez lui. Il ne peut pas le faire sans payer les dettes qu'il a acquis pour pouvoir arriver en Europe.

C'est pour ça que j'organise ce crowfunding

Il s’appelle Akeida et il est d’origine indonésienne. Un jour, il m’a interpellé pour me demander de l’aide. Il avait ses affaires avec lui et 
semblait désespéré. Je voulais lui offrir de l’argent mais il a refusé. Ensuite, il m’a expliqué qu’il avait trouvé du travail ici en Suisse mais que son employeur ne voulait pas le payer. Il me demandait seulement de parler avec son employeur pour lui demander de payer ce qui lui était dû.

J’avoue que ma seule envie, à ce moment-là,  était de lui donner de l’argent pour ne pas me sentir coupable et partir l’esprit plus tranquille. D’ailleurs, c’est probablement ce que j’aurais fait n’importe quel autre jour avec lui comme avec n’importe quelle autre personne. Mais ce jour-là, j’ai pensé que je pourrais être dans la même situation que cet homme : seul, sans un endroit où dormir, où stocker mes affaires, dénutri et regardé par tous comme si… je n’avais même pas le droit d’exister.

Je l'ai alors invité chez moi pour qu’il puisse, au moins, se laver et pour lui donner des vêtements propres.

Finalement, je l'ai engagé pour nettoyer ma maison et je suis très content de son travail. J’ai appris qu’il a deux enfants en Indonésie et que son père étant malade, il avait besoin d’argent pour être soigné.

Il m’a aussi appris que pour immigrer en Suisse, il avait dû s'endetter et que rentrer dans son pays sans payer cette dette pourrait équivaloir à une sentence de mort.

Or, son père est décédé récemment et Akeida a dû s'endetter encore plus.

À présent, ça fait une année que je le connais. Il m’a seulement demandé du travail. A plusieurs occasions,

il aurait eu la possibilité de me voler mais il ne l’a jamais fait. Au contraire, il achète souvent des choses

pour chez moi avec son argent.

Bien qu'il ne cherche qu’à travailler, la police l’a interpellé à plusieurs reprises et une procédure judiciaire a

été entamée contre lui. J’en ai lu le procès-verbal qui, basiquement, l’accuse d'exister, de travailler et de

posséder de l’argent. On lui demande de payer une amende et de quitter la Suisse. Sinon, il peut être

condamné à 3 mois de prison et à une expulsion.

C’est moi qui ai insisté pour savoir combien d’argent il lui faudrait pour pouvoir rentrer chez lui avant l’hiver.

Il a besoin de 15.000 dollars américains pour payer ses dettes.

C’est pourquoi j'organise ce crowdfunding: pour qu’il puisse simplement rentrer chez lui sain et sauf, un

endroit où on le considère enfin tel l’être humain qu’il est.

ENGLISH VERSION: FULL STORY


For those who do not yet know me, my name is Luis Lima Faria and I am a Portuguese doctor.

I studied medicine in Barcelona, then I came to Switzerland to do my specialty in internal medicine.

I went to Spain to do medicine because I didn't have the academic level to do it in Portugal.

Spain welcomed me and allowed me to study what I wanted. Then I came to Switzerland to specialize.

Now I have my practice in Geneva where I am an attending physician. The majority of my patients are Portuguese-speaking and it makes their life easier to be able to express themselves with me in their mother tongue.

I tell you all this because I literally met someone on the street who was not as lucky as me.

His name is Akeida and he is of Indonesian origin. One day, he called me for help. He had his stuff with him and seemed desperate. I wanted to offer him money but he refused. Then he explained to me that he had found work here in Switzerland but that his employer did not want to pay for it. He was just asking me to speak with his employer and ask him to pay what was owed to him.

 

I admit that my only desire, at that time, was to give him money so as not to feel guilty and leave with peace of mind. Besides, that's probably what I would have done any other day with him as with any other person.

 

But that day, I thought I could be in the same situation as this man: alone, without a place to sleep, to store my belongings, starved and looked at by all as if... I didn't even have the right to exist.

 

I then invited him to my house so that he could at least wash himself and gave him clean clothes.

 

Finally, I hired him to clean my house and I am very happy with his work. I learned that he has a child in

Indonesia and that his father was ill and needed money to be treated.

 

He also told me that in order to immigrate to Switzerland, he had to go into debt and that returning to his country without paying this debt could amount to a death sentence.

In the meantime, his father passed away and Akeida had to go into even more debt.

 

Now I've known him for a year. The only thing he´s ever asked me for was work. On several occasions, he

would have had the opportunity to steal from me but he never did. On the contrary, he often buys things for me (cleaning stuff, for example) with his own money.

 

Although he is only trying to work, the police have harassed him on several occasions and legal proceedings have been instituted against him. I have read the documents, which basically accuse him of existing, of working and of owning money. He was asked to pay a fine and leave Switzerland. Otherwise, he can be sentenced to 3 months in prison and deportation.

I was the one who insisted on knowing how much money he would need to be able to go home before the

winter.

He needs 15,000 US dollars to pay his debts.

That's why I organize this crowdfunding: so that he can simply go home safe and sound, to a place where we finally consider him as the human being that he is.
