It’s been an incredibly difficult week for AJ’s Tex-Mex & Barbecue, and I’m starting this fundraiser on their behalf because sometimes a community needs to step in and help one of its own.

In one week, they were broken into and a few days later the smoker caught fire in the kitchen. The fire put them in a tough spot and they are facing the cost of kitchen repairs and the loss of a typically very busy Labor Day weekend.

Just as importantly, the closure has affected the employees who unexpectedly lost hours and wages during this time. A portion of what is raised will help support those employees.

Altogether, this has become a significant financial hit for a small business in the span of just a few days. The owners would never be comfortable asking for help themselves, which is exactly why I wanted to do it for them.

AJ’s is a true family effort. It’s not a big corporate place. If this restaurant has ever fed you, welcomed you, given you a favorite meal, or simply been a place you’re happy to have in the community, I know they would be incredibly grateful for your support — whether it’s a donation or simply sharing this page.

Small businesses survive because people choose to support them—not only when things are going well, but sometimes when they really need a hand.
