VCTF Det. Andrew Rodman (AJ)
AJ’s world got turned upside down on June 9th, 2025. He was hospitalized initially at Lakewood Ranch Medical Center after feeling ill for a few weeks. He had a bone marrow biopsy which confirmed he had a type of blood cancer. On June 12th, he was transferred to Moffitt Cancer Center in Tampa, FL, and was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML). He had an additional bone marrow biopsy and further testing which confirmed that he has an aggressive subtype of AML. This subtype is resistant to chemotherapy and has a high relapse rate, but we are hopeful that with his age and previous good health, he will beat the odds.
During his first month at Moffitt, he completed his first round of chemotherapy. After his initial treatments are completed, he needs a bone marrow transplant as well as additional chemotherapy over the next 1-2 years.
After his bone marrow transplant, he will be required to live in the hospital for a minimum of 30 days, and upon his discharge, he will then be required to live in Tampa, to be close to Moffitt, for an additional 60 days, which will require him to obtain a secondary living arrangement.
AJ has worked for the Manatee County Sheriff’s Office for the past 4 years. He is currently a Detective with the Violent Crimes Task Force and a member of the SWAT Team. AJ is a loving and devoted husband and father to his wife Mallory and 5-year-old daughter Nora. In March of 2025, AJ and Mallory purchased their first home. They were just starting to settle in when their lives took a turn they could never have anticipated.
Due to his diagnosis and hospitalization, AJ has been out of work since June 9th. On top of his mortgage and normal life expenses, AJ and his family will now have to deal with extensive medical bills and the cost to obtain a secondary living situation while he pursues future treatments.
AJ has given so much to help and support his community and now is our chance to return the favor. Any form of support for AJ and his family is greatly appreciated!
AJ is a fighter and we want him to know that he is not alone as he goes through this battle.
Thank you so much for your support. ❤️
