Help Áine Tyrrell’s family recover from floods

Donation protected
This Go Fund Me is to assist our beautiful friend Áine Tyrrell and her family (three children) to secure housing while they recover from severe flood damages and assist with alleviating financial pressures as they find their feet during an uncertain time.

Last week, while on the road tour managing for her dear mate Emily Wurramara, songwriter and performer Áine Tyrrell started getting alerts about the flooding back home in the northern rivers district. She rushed home from Sydney, via backroads, witnessing the devastation as she drove throughout the region, Grafton to Byron, “It was apocalyptic in Lismore let alone all the neighbouring towns and their devastation. I didn’t even know how to prepare for my own shock with all I witnessed.”

On arriving home to Mullumbimby she discovered that her home had flooded and was now un-livable. Their storage unit (filled with those priceless family mementos) had been washed away and her tour bus partially submerged. Sewerage had come up with the flood waters making the residence a health hazard and so Áine and her family (three beautiful kids) are now living in temporary housing that the Mullum community have been able to offer short term. Most of what they called home will not be recoverable, there is some hope for the bus.

Anyone who has a close friend or family member in the music industry knows how tough the last two years have been for our community. The inability to earn from performance compounded by little to no government assistance for our sector has created huge financial burdens for many. Add to this the recent loss of Áine’s Dad and life inspiration Sean Tyrrell in October last year; a fraught trip home to Ireland to make his final moments, catching Covid-19 in the process and the excruciating recovery from long Covid over the past 4 months has meant losing her home is quite literally - the final straw.

If you know Áine Tyrell then you know what an incredibly generous, amazing and kind person she is; always there for a cuppa when you’re going through it, the first to offer a bed or a meal when you’re on the road and the biggest smile backstage at a festival. She is a quality human and we love and admire her so much. Music community is real, we know what it is to live paycheque to paycheque and we know how to take care of our own. Any amount is a contribution toward helping Áine get on her feet again. We appreciate you x
