On July 6th, Tropical Storm Chantal brought unexpected devastating flooding to parts of central North Carolina resulting in a state of emergency. Among those most affected was the beloved therapy space of Aimee and Rafael, home to their practice, Temenos Psychotherapy.
That evening, floodwaters surged 12 feet, sending over 15,000 gallons of water into the building’s crawl space and main office, resulting not only in significant structural damage to the building, but also in immense emotional impact on Aimee and Raf. Many of their tools of healing — cherished furniture, therapy supplies, art materials, psychotherapy books, and electronics — were completely destroyed. The flooding was classified as a Category 3 contamination, requiring a full replacement of most contents of the building.
Years ago, Aimee and Rafael bought the multi-practitioner building and poured their love, labor, and savings into transforming the space into a warm, welcoming environment for clients and co-practitioners. Their space serves young people in crisis navigating the transition into adulthood, LGBTQIA+ youth, women struggling with disordered eating, immigrants, and men working through relationship issues. Now, they face the difficult and incredibly costly process of rebuilding, so they can continue the work their community deeply relies on with as minimal interruption to client care as possible.
While they are going through the laborious and complex process of navigating FEMA and insurance to potentially cover building repairs, that coverage does not include the contents of their space — the essential items and materials that make their work possible each day.
If you know Aimee and Rafael, you know how deeply kind, generous, and humble they are — they’d never ask for help themselves, so we’re asking on their behalf.
Your donation will help restore the essentials — furniture, supplies, technology, and more — so they can reopen and resume providing healing to their community. Every contribution, no matter the size, makes a meaningful difference. If you’re unable to give financially, sharing this fundraiser is just as valuable.
Aimee and Rafael are profoundly grateful for any support. Thank you for helping them rebuild the space that has offered healing, care, and connection to so many.
