On February 21st, the raging winds of a Humboldt County winter storm brought down a Douglas Fir tree upon our dear friend Aileen's home in Willow Creek, CA—while she and her family were sitting just three feet away. By some incredible grace, neither Aileen, her husband, their small daughter, nor any of their animals were harmed in the incident—but their recently purchased house is in tatters. The living room and fireplace are officially destroyed, and the roof and deck must now be partially replaced.

Between meeting with adjusters and contractors, suffering from a previous and ongoing back injury, commuting daily to Arcata for work, and braving the pervasive harshness of the season, Aileen is spread far too thin. We kindly and humbly ask for whatever can be contributed to assist the Romero-Wood family in their time of profound need. Absolutely all proceeds from this campaign will go directly to Aileen so that she might navigate her family's health and well-being and begin the restoration of their home. Aileen is not only my dear friend and cherished community member, she is also my sacred co-worker. A dedicated servant to Humboldt County, Aileen works full time as an MA for Open Door's OB program. So much of her life and time are focused on the safety and health of our community's women and children.
