Hello everyone, our names are Kelly and Riley. We recently have had the misfortune of finding out our senior dog Ella has been diagnosed with Oral Melanoma. Thankfully, we were able to receive help from a foundation partnered with Petco to help fund the procedure. Although it helped, we find ourselves still struggling to pay for the remainder of Ella's treatment.
Even more unfortunately, our other fur baby, Athena, a 2 year old bully mix suffered a stroke, followed by a quick decline of health. She was sadly taken from us shortly after her incident, even after multiple vet visits. Between trying everything within our power to help both of our loved pets, we are struggling to afford everything. The loss of Athena after only a short 6 months has devastated us, making it all that much harder. We kindly ask if there is anything you can spare to us, it would be so appreciated and put all towards Ella and Athena's medical bills.
Ella was adopted about ten years ago by me (Kelly) and has overcome so much. She was abused by a prior owner to the point that she was terrified of men. She also had skin allergies so bad that she was completely covered in scabs. After numerous vet appointments, we discovered she had a severe staph infection. With her finally on the correct medication, I was able to clear up her skin. Over the course of a year, she was completely scab free with fur growing back and was comfortable around men. Unfortunately, we could not catch a break with her medical needs. A few years later, Ella had high ALT levels. In simple terms, her liver wasn’t working correctly. After numerous X-Rays and an ultrasound, we found she had sludge in her gallbladder. No surgery was required thankfully, and she would be on medication for the rest of her life. Now she is approximately 13 years old and I achieved my promise to her of giving her a house and a yard after years of being in an apartment. Her liver levels have come back down to normal to a normal level and she is completely healthy other than cancer.
Athena’s story is a little shorter, unfortunately. She was adopted in January of this year and Riley immediately knew she was the one. We had discussed getting another dog since Ella was getting older and I already had two cats. We decided the next dog we adopted would be Riley’s. We don’t know much about Athena’s background, except that she was found by animal control. We suspected she was used as a breeder dog and then dumped onto the street at approximately 2 years old. She loved two things, food and people. She is greatly missed by us.
