Hi, my name is Kat, and I never imagined I’d be writing something like this, especially while 8 months pregnant.

My husband and I have been working so hard to prepare for the arrival of our first baby. We were trying to make sure everything was ready, physically, emotionally, and financially. He was planning to be the breadwinner while I recovered postpartum, and we were doing our best to hold things together even though my maternity leave is unpaid.

But everything changed suddenly and violently.

Tonight on July 1st 2025, while working his shift at his restaurant job, my husband was physically attacked by a coworker. The assault caused him to fall hard and fracture his femur. He’s now in the hospital and scheduled for emergency surgery, and we have no idea how long his recovery will take.

We are still in complete shock. It was not his fault, and it was not an accident. He was simply doing his job and now our lives have been flipped upside down.

He will be out of work for weeks or possibly months. We’re trying to file for workers’ compensation and emergency assistance, but that all takes time and we don’t have time. He was our only main source of income, and we’re now facing an impossible situation. Our first baby girl is due on August 7th 2025 and we are now facing extreme financial challenges with him not being able to work and me needing to be home for baby and him.

I am heartbroken, scared, and overwhelmed. We didn’t ask for any of this. And now we’re asking for help, even though it’s hard to do.
